Menthol as colorless acicular and prismatic crystals has a special scent of mint. After the initial hot taste it appears cool feeling; there is sublimation; when in ethanol solution it shows significantly neutral reaction. Menthol is easily dissolved in ethanol, chloroform, ether, liquid paraffin or volatile oil, soluble in water. Its melting point: should be 42 to 44 degrees Celsius, the boiling point is 216.5. Specific rotation: precision to take this product, add ethanol solution containing 1ml per 0.1g, specific rotation should be 49 degrees to 50 degrees.
