​1. Lose weight

Fucoxanthine can activate UCP1 gene expression, thereby reducing fat.

Uncoupling protein-1 (UCP-1) is present in white adipose tissue and transfers energy from ATP synthesis to heat generation in brown adipose mitochondria by catalytically regulating proton leakage through the inner membrane (converting energy into heat and promoting lipolysis).

​2. Inhibit fat accumulation

Excess fat accumulation in the body and white fat tissue can lead to obesity and increase the risk of serious diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Regulating fat differentiation can prevent these diseases. Fucoxanthine can inhibit the intercellular lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells during adipocyte differentiation. In 3T3-L1 cells, fucoxanthin was converted to fucoxanol (a metabolite of fucoxanthin), which showed inhibitory effects on lipid accumulation and reduced the activity of glycerol 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, an indicator of adipocyte differentiation.
