Lactic acid is also known as 2- hydroxy acid. It is a mixture of lactic acid and lactyl-lactic acid. It is colorless to light yellow syrup liquid, which is odorless, or slightly fat acid smell. It has strong acidity. Industrial products are usually 50%-90% lactic acid solution (generally 85%-92%). It has moisture absorption ability.
When boiled and concentrated, lactic acid is synthesized into lactyl-lactic acid and 2-lactyl acyl hydroxyl acrylic acid, the dilution and heating and hydrolyzed into lactic acid.
It can be mixed with water, propylene glycol, glycerol, acetone, ethyl ether and ethanol mixture. It is hardly soluble in chloroform, petroleum ether and carbon disulfide. The melting point of pure lactic acid is 16.8℃, the boiling point is 122℃, and the relative density is 1.249.
It taste sour softly, 100ml of 50% lactic acid equivalent of 100g citric acid. Taste threshold 0.004%. There are α and β two types, normally α type, light and cold resistant.
